The WJMS Academic Team competed at the state Governor’s Cup from March 13-15, 2010, at the Galt House in Louisville and made school history.After going undefeated through pool play, they found themselves in the Sweet Sixteen. They then competed and beat Lexington Traditional Magnet School, Breckinridge Middle School (quarterfinals), and Belfry Middle School (semi-finals) to earn a spot in the Final match against Pikeville High School. Pikeville took first, and the WJMS Quick Recall Team finished 2nd in the state of Kentucky.
While several students competed in written assessments, two students placed at the state level: Noah Dixon placed 6th in Mathematics, Catherine Graham placed 3rd in Composition.
Total scores across all components of competition determine final placement of teams, and the WJMS Academic Team finished in 4th place overall for the entire state, bringing home the 4th place Governor's Cup. Above is the team with Governor Steve Beshear. For more results, see the KAAC website.
